At least 2 g of biomass, 1ml of terpene mixture is required for representative determination. A larger amount guarantees a more representative result.
The biomass sample is ground with a grinder (homogenization), the appropriate amount is weighed and the sample is then extracted several times with alcohol. The extract or droplets are weighed and diluted with a suitable solvent. The method for determining the content of cannabinoids and terpenes is gas chromatography (GC), in which a flame ionizing detector (FID) is used for detection. The contents are determined by the external standard method, and reference identification solutions are used to identify individual cannabinoids and terpenes.
Detection limit (LOD): 100 ppm or 0,01%.
Quantification limit (LOQ): 200 ppm or 0,02%.
The determination of terpene content using gas chromatography with flame ionization detection (GC-FID) is a robust and highly effective method, recognized for its precision and sensitivity in terpene analysis. GC-FID provides a broad linear range, allowing accurate quantification of terpenes, even at varying concentrations. This method excels in its ability to detect terpenes without requiring chromophores, enabling the identification and quantification of compounds that do not absorb in the UV-visible spectrum. The FID detector offers consistent and reliable responses based on the carbon content of the molecules, ensuring accurate results across a wide range of terpene profiles. With GC-FID, terpene analysis is both efficient and comprehensive, making it an excellent choice for reliable terpene profiling.
