THCV, or tetrahydrocannabivarin, is a compound in cannabis that offers a unique array of effects and medical benefits that sets it apart from other cannabinoids like THC and CBD. It is a homologue of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) having a propyl (3-carbon) side chain instead of a pentyl (5-carbon) group on the molecule. THCV is a cannabinoid receptor type 1 antagonist and cannabinoid receptor type 2 partial agonist. Δ8-THCV has also been shown to be a CB1 antagonist.

THCV is an appetite suppressant. THCV may help with diabetes. THCV may reduce panic attacks. It appears to curb anxiety attacks in PTSD patients without suppressing emotion. THCV may help with Alzheimer’s. THCV stimulates bone growth.
