Gamma-gurjunene is a naturally occurring sesquiterpene hydrocarbon found in various plant sources, including the resin of the Gurjun tree (Dipterocarpus species), after which it is also named. Gamma-gurjunene is a sesquiterpene, which means it consists of three isoprene units, totaling 15 carbon atoms. Sesquiterpenes generally contribute to the earthy, woody, and sometimes slightly spicy or resinous aromas of the plants where they are found.

Uses and applications of this compound have not been widely established, due to limeted research. However, sesquiterpenes in general have shown potential anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties.
