β-Selinene is the major sesquiterpene hydrocarbon of calamondin orange (Citrofortunella mitis) fruits. The bicyclic skeleton can be formed by cyclization of FPP to the eudesmane cation by way of germacrene A. β-Selinene is a sesquiterpene, which means it consists of three isoprene units, totaling 15 carbon atoms. Sesquiterpenes generally contribute to the earthy, woody, and sometimes slightly spicy or resinous aromas of the plants where they are found.

Uses and applications of this compound have not been widely established, due to limeted research. However, sesquiterpenes in general have shown potential anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties.
